[lace] I need help unsubscribing

2005-04-19 Thread Haddad
Hello there - As my subject line says, I need help unsubscribing. When I try the usual method - sending an email to majordomo I get an error message telling me I am not a member of the list. I have written to the moderator asking for help, and I am still not unsubscribed. So what do I do now?

[lace-chat] The Little things

2004-06-03 Thread Haddad
You may have heard/read this before. I haven't, and am sending it on. The Little things After September 11, one company invited the remaining members of other companies, who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers, to share their available office space. At a morning meeting, the

[lace] Booklets - not lace

2004-05-16 Thread Haddad
Dear Lacers - Please forgive the cross-post, but I accidentally sent it to chat, when it should have come here. Hello all - Since many, if not most, bobbin lacers also have interests and abilities in other gentle arts, I'm offering some booklets here on other arts. They are free, and if

[lace-chat] booklets, not bobbin lace

2004-05-14 Thread Haddad
Hello all - Since many, if not most, bobbin lacers also have interests and abilities in other gentle arts, I'm offering some booklets here on other arts. They are free, and if more than one person asks, I will pull the names out of the proverbial hat for them. 1) A weaving Primer (Weave-easy

[lace-chat] lace in hospital - and my pathology report

2004-03-25 Thread Haddad
Hi all - I wanted to wait until I had the pathology report on my endometrial cancer before reporting back to you, and thanking everyone for thoughts and prayers. The surgery (March 10) went well - I had it my way (spinal as opposed general anesthesia). I'm recuperating well - and the pathology

[lace] lace in hospital

2004-02-26 Thread Haddad
I just wanted to thank everyone who answered my question about whether or not to take lace with me to the hospital - both on and off list. I think it works out to about 50/50 for and agin - I'll decide when I get closer to the date. For anyone who is interested - it's the big H because of the

[lace] lace while in hospital

2004-02-24 Thread Haddad
I was wondering if anyone has experience in this, and could pass on your wisdom. I'm facing surgery in 2 weeks - which I will likely have under a spinal/epidural. (I say that to say that my mind will remain alert post-op; no guarantees with general anaesthesia) I'm thinking of maybe bringing a

[lace-chat] more re: maple syrup

2004-02-12 Thread Haddad
When my daughter was taking some post-secondary education, it came out (reliably, though off-topic) that maple syrup can serve as emergency rations. Evidently a person can survive for 30 days on one tablespoon (presumably per day). Just a piece of trivia. Rose-Marie Abbotsford, BC, Canada sunny,

[lace] Bookmarks

2004-01-08 Thread Haddad
I have been asked privately about bookmark prickings - since I sent in an email or 2 to the list about bookmarks - asking where to find prickings for them. I know that one Arachnean - April - has a booklet of prickings - I have her catalog. Usual disclaimer. Could other bookmark makers please

[lace] spiders

2004-01-05 Thread Haddad
Someone once told me that a mistake is a pattern, or something along that line. Interesting thought, and I never forgot it. Last week I was making yet another bookmark, and accidentally forgot to twist the legs of the first spider. Rather than take it out (the work of a whole minute and a

[lace] re: unusual bobbins on eBay

2003-12-06 Thread Haddad
Here are bobbins for sale on ebay in a shape that I've not come across before. Any suggestions on the region they might come from or what type of lace they'd be used for? Or are they lacemaking bobbins at all? Those aren't lace bobbins, they're Gobelin-style tapestry bobbins. The long smooth

[lace] lace pattern

2003-12-03 Thread Haddad
Has anyone made any of Eeva-Liisa Kortelahti's patterns - the religious ones? They are for sale on the Lacemaker site http://www.lacemakerusa.com/ I am interesting in ordering and trying one - has anyone an idea of the level of difficulty? Rose-Marie Abbotsford, BC, Canada looks like we'll

[lace] Ottawa Canada lacers

2003-11-28 Thread Haddad
Hi again - I'm writing 2 separate emails because the two topics are totally unrelated. I have an aunt, a retired home-ec teacher who has done just about every craft around, living in Ottawa (moved about a year ago). She is quite intrigued with the fact that I do bobbin lace (likely one of

[lace] Lace pillow

2003-11-28 Thread Haddad
Hi all - Last year I saw a pillow made of a cut-down cupboard drawer! It made it handy for carrying, and provided a good angle for the work. At that time, I didn't have any spare cupboard drawers handy (!!) - now after kitchen renos I do, but can't quite remember the details. Can anyone

[lace-chat] east-west

2003-11-11 Thread Haddad
Further to the comments on east-west dyslexia - I find that in certain places in the country I get 180 degrees disoriented. One of the worst places for me is the area where we have now moved, the Fraser Valley. Other places I can go and have no problem with east-west (and of course,

[lace-chat] flag folding

2003-11-05 Thread Haddad
Dear lacers - Since you are such a treasure-trove of information of all sorts, I have a question I hope someone can answer. When I was in elementary school, we had flag-raising every morning. (And taking down at the end of the school day, but there was no ceremony involved with this). We

[lace] bookmarks and lace stools

2003-11-02 Thread Haddad
Dear Lacers - Thank-you for all the responses I got, privately and over the list, to the questions I asked about determining the length of thread to use in any given pattern (but especially the bookmarks I'm working at) and ideas for a footstool for when one is making lace. I was given some

[lace-chat] novel idea

2003-11-02 Thread Haddad
Dear lacers - I know that creativity often shows itself in a person in many areas - i.e. if you are creative in one area, chances are good you are creative in others. I wonder if some of you who are also creative with pen and ink have thought of writing a novel about lacers in bygone

[lace] Miss Channer's Mat

2003-08-26 Thread FRM Haddad
Lately we've heard from several who are about to make Miss Channer's Mat. From where is the pattern available? I've been given to understand that it is no longer in print. My lace goal is to one day be able to make the above-mentioned mat, although at the rate I'm going, it would take several

[lace-chat] Lactose intolerance

2003-08-24 Thread FRM Haddad
We deal with lactose intolerance in our family, too. My husband is Mediterranean, where many are lactose intolerant, and he is no exception. One of our daughters can measure her immune strength by drinking milk. And a grand-daughter (niece to the aforementioned daughter) is also lactose
