There's anther lot of lace bobbins on ebay. More feasible as such that the
previous lot, but they're not for bobbin lacemaking. They could be for another
type of lacemaking, if so, what?
To me they look more like elaborate toggle buttons found on duffle coats for
instance.

I think that they are handles to use with plastic supermarket bags. I've seen
these for sale by bobbin turners at lace fairs

Hi everyone,
A little while ago someone on Arachne asked about Binche bobbins. In sorting
through some of my -extensive- bobbin collection I came accross some packs
of new Binche bobbins. They were bought a while ago for my own use but I use
the slightly heavier Duchesse bobbins. I have
In the last few minutes Christine and David Springett have started listing
their bobbins on ebay under Crafts/Lacemaking/Bobbins or search for
Springett.
The first four are there and bidding starts at 99 pence.

And 39 of them are described as bone/ivory. I've just got home from
Upchurch lace Day where David Springett was the speaker and he said
that in all of his experience he's only seen ONE antique bobbin that
was made of ivory! Maybe that's why they are attracting such a nice
price.

Looks like a genuine collection of old bobbins but nothing spectacular.
Pity the photos were taken at such an acute angle - impossible to see
exactly what's in the lot, but an average of more than 10 GBP per
bobbin does seem a bit steep.
Couldn't agree more - it in my opinion.
For anyone who *needs* more bobbins there are some on Ebay with more
promised

Hi All,
There was a report of some of Margaret Wall's bobbins on eBay several days
ago, and there are now some more of Heather Power's painted bobbins - one of
the numbers is 8191313136 - the others are the two just above it. The
bobbins are made by Stuart Johnson and painted by Heather - and I
They're listed as lace making bobbins, they've got thread wound on them and
they could be used as lace bobbins. But if they are lace bobbins, where do
they come from? If they're not, what are they? The only impression of scale
is the thread.

They've gone into my collection of curios, until I think of a use for

From watching too many antique roadshows as a child I believe that they now define
antique as over 100 years and 50 - 100 as collectable
