Have never heard of the book, but Cassell is, probably, my favourite publisher of all kinds of dictionaries and compendia (as well as superb textbooks for teaching languages); I don't think I've ever seen a Cassell-published book that I didn't find interesting.


The book itself... Given the date and the scope, my guess would be that it was aimed at people who collected laces rather than lacemakers, as a sort of guidebook. It would be interesting to find out what the recommended methods of conservation and care were at the time :)
