I found an example of lassen in Valenciennes (square ground). It was executed in an irregular zig-zag, which makes sense because you don't need as much of an over lap as you would if you did it in a straight diagonal. Where the solid areas are joined it is messy looking. But I wasn't able to upload a detailed photo of this for some reason. Once again, it does not appear that there is a special very fine thread being used. I posted the photos of the overall shot and one detail shot on laceioli.ning in the Identification-History group.
