space when storing or packing, and best of all is very quiet,
Has anyone tried to put the newnham jaws onto an electric motor with
foot controlled variable speed? Maybe using the motor from a toy sewing
machine? I envisage the jaw would be upright so that gravity aids in
holding the bobbin centred.
If it has been done, would love to find out more - design
I do not own the pocket winder that some have written about. I have seen it,
though not in action, but I understand it does not wind all types of bobbins.
Maybe someone who has one can tell us about what bobbins it will not hold.
I have a couple of winders and I have to place my Midlands in

Which is why I suggested that anyone who wanted the instructions should
contact the Lace Guild but of course Dorothy Cox has it in her book, see

unless you send them privately to one person at a time, they won't get
them. Perhaps you could post them with the pictures we have on Webshots?
I had written to Sheila privately and have looked through the issue that she
suggested might be the one where the article was included, plus a few issues
on each side, but as yet haven't been successful in finding it.
If I can find it (and if the Lace Guild don't mind it being posted on the

Hi All
As this was in a copy of Lace (issued by the Lace Guild) why not contact the
Lace Guild as ask for the instructions from them.
Which, of course, makes it copyrighted material
Looked that up in Lace 42, but find that it was plans/ideas used to build an
electric bobbin winder for Dr. Yvonne Hawkins sister. The motor from an
electric food mixer was used,.

Sheila,
Do you or anyone else have the directions for these bobbin winders? I have
one of these fans and would like to try to make a winder like this. Any and
all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Miriam!
I also had the Lego Winder instructions, and was sure my son's lego stash would
give up the parts... but there was one which I just couldn't find.
There are lists on the internet for Lego enthusiasts, and evidently there are
many who are very serious about collecting the old
