I certainly agree.
However, I think that this moving towards machine mounting is part of
the changing nature of (bobbin) lacemaking. Traditionally, lace made
for sale was made by one person (or several in the case of

I do agree with what Sue has said. When I was a new lacemaker part of my
reason for attending lace days was to meet other lacemakers. The class

Hi Eve et al,
I had to smile - I thought my reasons were just the same for attending Lace
Days, as I think - and my husband knows! - over thirty years, I probably
have enough bobbins and gear. But - when I see a new gadget - which I

Irma Boone (Belgium) well-known needle-lace-teacher, died this morning.
She has been ill for some time, but we all hoped that she will get
better.
82 years old, she did a lot to revive needle-lace, she has been

OIDFA too.
Hi All
We had our lace day on the first Saturday of May and I was in two minds
whether to go for one reason and another but I am so pleased I went.
Phil bought me a bobbin winder which I had heard conflicting reports(some of
the ladies in my group said they were not worth the money especially
As lace type this belongs to the Guipure laces. If it comes from the
region of Mirecourt is verydifficult to decide. So in my opinion it's
better to stay by the lace types than the places they were made.

Hi Fellow Spiders
I've been following this thread with interest, however, are we mixing
up lace days and lace fairs?
In our area there is one lace day and 2 lace fairs. That amounts to 3
visits per year!! At lace fairs we have access to numerous sellers,
and we can view lots of

Hi Sue
Your are lucky we only have the one lace day a year (I feel like I am living
in the back of beyond) where we have 2 supplies and then one of those
suppliers giving a talk about lace this year it was Lace and what we can use
it for by the lady from Lacewing. If I want to go to more then I
Hi all I find it very puzzling. We all know the groups that have 5 to 10
suppliers visiting their monthly meeting and where for suppliers it is a waste
of time. We went to one Lace day where we were in two class rooms, I won't say
where. Anyway people kept coming to the door and waving to
Hi Rhiannon,
This is quite a collection of terms! Where did you find
these? Context would be helpful, but this is what I came up with.
Could someone help clarify some stitches for me:
point de tige
embroidery stitch
english = stem stitch
dieppe

In light of the recent discussion on lace-chat about travel complications
within the UK, perhaps many who could attend a lace event are choosing not
to, if the travel to it is difficult.

Brenda, If you go by your basic formula for a lace fair, we are doing
quite well in New South Wales. At our last bimonthly lace day in Sydney, we
had our usual 2 general suppliers who both carry just about everything
needed books, bobbins, threads, and both have their own specialty items as
well.
