Dear Spiders
I have just heard this morning that another very well known and excellent
lacemaker has passed away, having been taken by that dreadful disease Cancer.
She was well known in Brugge too, as she used to organise trips from here in
the UK to Brugge. Please pass on this sad news to
Dear All,
I forgot to ask what kind of fabric to ask for. Then I remembered some fairy
tale where some drops of blood were gathered on a piece of cambric. I think
the fairy tale involved swans, not sure. So then I looked up cambric.
Wikipedia is such a useful tool. Cambric was a specially
In the past I, too, have tried to reply to a person's question and received
the message you must have permission (or some such phrase) to get in their in
box. I 'applied' and go not response so did not actually 'answer the
question'. I hope someone else was able to do so. I also get the
Dear Lorri,
In my circumstance, if you send it directly to me, and not through Arachne, it
goes to an online folder, which I read right after my inbox stuff on my
computer, and an automatic message is sent. Mine now reads:
I apologize for this automatic reply to your email.

HI,
I thought that I would share my finished fan. I used the pattern from the LACE
magazine. Being that I am in the US and unable to find the coffee stirrers used
for the ribs. I created my own by cutting them out of a cereal box. Then
painting them. Had lots of fun knitting it. looking

Dear Clay,
Ahah! Let us see if this is the case. I am now
Woweee cazoonies! (no clue, but it's not supposed to be off color)
All the apostrophes intact. I just changed to plain text on my computer
based email, Windows Live email, and it should work. Wonder what this will
do to my other email.
Lace content, I'm still trying to order from Martha
What Donna did not mention was, that after our lace meeting we went to her
local
knitting/coffee shop/ice cream parlor where she found wooden coffee stirrers
that would make ideal fansticks. It is an independent shop, not one of those
chains, so they may not be found everywhere. Interesting
Well done! (regarding the plain text!)
Now... about the fabric order. If you're getting this for
handerchiefs, a yard will last well into the lifetimes of your heirs!!
I think the pieces I got some time back were 60wide, but that may not
be the case. In any event, you may want to order
Yes, actually, I was going to ask about the lace collection. From what I
can tell, Cleveland has an excellent lace collection. Some pieces were
donated by Mrs. E.S. Harkness to that museum in honor of her mother-in-law, as
the family had Cleveland roots. Mrs. Harkness was a major lace donor
Lyn,
I don't think you are really hearing, nor realizing, what is being
said. The message may come through to you whether the writer realizes it or
not, but we ALWAYS get this response from you/Earthlink no matter what, asking
us to fill out our info and it becomes tedium and insulting.
Dear Spiders,
I've resubscribed Lyn to Arachne. She has assured me that she does
read her Arachne email, so I suggested that she re-write her canned
auto-response and put a line in her sig. In other words, ignore the
email that comes back when you write to her. Pretend she's gone to
