[lace] Travel Pillow etc.

2017-05-13 Thread lizlace
I have had a similar problem of needing a pillow at Conventions, -m and have
taken up the Host’s $5 offer of a foam block. I made a slightly raised
fabric cover – with a variety of sized felt pieces stitched to the centre
of a large square of fabric, that , when pinned on the block gave me a
slightly domed area to work on – more like my usual cookie pillow at them!!
It worked Very well, and I gave the foam piece away at the end of Convention,
as I could not bring it home.

I have not received the UK Lace Magazine yet. I keep watching for the pot, and
hoping it will surface soon. Maybe this week...!

Talking of Convention – I have been trying to get a form for the Lace
display room at Convention, and cannot get an answer from anyone there. I
have written twice to the link given on the Web site, and once to the
President of the local Guild, but without an answer, and someone else sent my
email address to the co-ordinator asking for one to be sent me and Still No
reply.
I wonder what has gone wrong, and why I cannot get a form, as I am prepared to
bring a couple of pieces of my lace for the Exhibition, - as I have done in
the past.
Can anyone help, please? Or advise..! It seems Very unusual.

Regards from Liz. In Melbourne, Oz.

RE: [lace] Lace stands

2017-05-13 Thread Jay Ekers
I have heard these called Belgian stands. My Australian made one has given
many years service; it is the same as Tess described but additionally has a
plate that fits over the top cross bar - this supports the pillow without
needing a lap. I usually lay a rubber non-slip mat beneath the pillow for
security so I can safely get up and leave without having to move the
pillow.

Interesting that nowhere do I see the simplest form of lacemaking stand. It
is a simple adjustable column (raises or lowers to any convenient height),
is steadied by a flat area for one's feet, and supports one edge of the flat
pillow while the opposite edge rests on one's lap. With the column
compressed, it measures about 18" high and depending on the size of the foot
plate about 8" wide. Jeannet van Ord gave me one years ago, and it fits in
my suitcase. I have used it for travel and classes, and around the house
when space is limited. Several friends have copied it, thanks to their
woodworking husbands, and seem to find it as useful as I do.

Sally you have just made my Mother's Day perfect!

I have been admiring your 2017 bookmark and marvelling at your innovative
take on it - and now I have such a heartwarmed sense of pride that I in some
small way helped you get this far in your lace making journey.

Thank you so much for your words, I will cherish them as the inspiration
they are.

[lace] Carolina Jasmine Lacers

2017-05-13 Thread Helene Ulrich
Does anyone know how to get in touch with someone from the Carolina
Jasmine Lacers in Charleston, SC.

I have tried the email address listed for B.A. Bond, but I get a
message stating the email address cannot be found. It is an aol.com
email, that may be part of the problem since gmail doesn't seem to
like aol emails.

Hoping someone can help.

Yes, Jenny, from my perspective you have been truly inspirational - a
well-placed word here and there from you encouraged me to try new
challenges and even to pursue some designing (you will see one of those
efforts in this year's bookmark exchange). Without your encouragement I am
not sure I would have pursued it. You may not have even been aware that you

[lace] 2017 Arachne Motif Exchange

2017-05-13 Thread Lin Hudren
We are down to the last days for sign ups for the motif exchange but don't
worry if you are a day or so behind. I will make it happen. Just contact
me (*linhud...@gmail.com *) and it will be worked
out. Also, if you are delayed in mailing your motif to your partner, let
your partner and me know so we can take the worry out of the wonderful
anticipation. This is to be FUN not a job or chore. I will be sending out
the exchange partner pairings in a day or so - no later than 5/20 but
sooner if able. I am always anxious to know who will be getting my lace
and what far away place I will be receiving mail from. But if you were on
holiday or didn't see the announcement until the last minute - join in
anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I believe there is time to get
a motif made and in the mail by September 1st.

This year the schedule will go like this:

May 1-18 Sign Ups

May 20 Exchange partner assignments made and emailed out

September 1All bookmarks should be in the mail, please

Please send me your name, snail mailing address, email address, how many
motif(s) you wish to make and any geographical location(s) you prefer, if
any. Thank you. Once you have your motif(s) made, please send a photo to
me (linhud...@gmail.com) with your partner's name to present the array of
motifs flying across the oceans.

If this is your first time, you are going to have lots of pleasure. If you
have been doing this for years, you know how much fun it can be. Any type
of lace and pattern is appropriate. Any skill level is welcome. This is
"creative license" at its best. Don't be shy - shine. May the lace bug
bite for lots of fun.

Hugs, Lin and the Mali
