Lace and longevity sometimes go hand-in-hand. Petronella runs circles
around others half her age, double difficult because she is well under 5 feet
tall. We walked back to the hotel after the OIDFA banquet in 2008 - well,
I walked, she ran. A native of The Netherlands, she immigrated to
Over here in Australia, a lacemaker was awarded an Order of Australia in the
Birthday Honours - Petronella Wensing who lives in Canberra.
She has some lace on (?)permanent show in the national museum.
I had the privilege of going to a 2 day workshop she gave here in Melbourne

I am also very happy to belong to this group. I have learned a lot here,
and I like its seriousness and that there is always someone out there to
give a very valuable answer. A few Spanish lacers tried to create something
similar in Spain, and had a lot of problems with the people. We finally
Hello all
Just coming out of lurkdom (as per Lyn's post) to pick up on Antje's reference
to problems with this kind of list. One of the best things about Arachne is the
existence of the lace-chat list. Although I no longer subscribe to it, I'm glad
it's there because it means posts on the main
I agree with Jeri Ames
Thank you to Avital and Liz Reynolds. There is a lot of work involved that no

Wonderful news this morning, Pat Read has been awarded an MBE in the
Queen's Birthday honours list.
And about time too.
Swanley lacemakers nominated her two years ago and were thrilled to

The listing reads that she has been awarded this for
WOW, that is really amazing, fantastic news. There couldn't be a better,
more deserving award person for all she has done teaching so many people with
so
many types of lace in general and with the research and development of
Milanese in particular.
I must practise my curtsey!

Congratulations to Pat.
That is great news - that a Lacemaker has been recognised for her skills in
the craft.
So many others get noticed for doing strange things with other crafts, that
it is uplifting to know Lace has been recognised.

So. Who was it that made a series of bobbins honouring lacemakers
who'd been recognised by their sovereigns? We need a new one :)

Thank you for the birthday wishes - I had a really lovely day. My home has
turned into a florists shop and I had a splendid cake complete with a lace
pillow, bobbins, pins and lace (almost all edible).
