ECOPOLITICS XIV CONFERENCE - "GREENING SUSTAINABILITY" Limited places still available!
Thursday 27 November to Saturday 29 November 2003 RMIT University - City Campus Further information from www.rmit.edu.au/tce/ssp/events/ecopol The idea of sustainable development is widely known and has attracted = broad support. In the 15 years since the Brundtland report made sustainable development a household term, individuals, communities, corporations and governments have developed and are implementing many initiatives that embrace the idea of sustainable development. However as last years Rio+10 Conference in Johannesburg demonstrated, what passes as 'sustainable development' may not be sustainable, but instead is open to considerable discussion and debate. It is therefore timely for Ecopolitics scholars and activists to re-examine, re-evaluate and explore individual, local, regional, national and global efforts towards sustainable development with a view to greening sustainability. Some questions to be explored include: Is sustainable development sustainable? What sense is being made of sustainability? What changes/practices are occurring or should occur? What are their implications? Whose voices are being heard and what viewpoints need to be considered? Has the concept of 'sustainable development' reached its use by date? Has the idea of 'sustainability' replaced the ideas of 'progress' and 'development' as the major goal for human societies? Ecopolitics XIV seeks to explore the theoretical, practical, and cultural dimensions associated with questions such as these. . -- -- Leftlink - Australia's Broad Left Mailing List mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archived at http://www.cat.org.au/lists/leftlink/ Sponsored by Melbourne's New International Bookshop Sub: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsub: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
