Well said. I came to the same conclusion some time ago. Lumping makes
sense in theory but the editing problem you cite makes it much more
difficult in practice.
I think that there are other reasons for splitting as well but it was
fixing mistakes or making additons in souce detail that convinced
or the lineage societies? Or what Ms.
Mills would do (as her name gets cited quite a bit)?
(Please don't turn this into a long argument about individual freedom,
or just an opinion fest. If there is a preferred way, please give
your sources. :-) )

Jim,
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I refer to the lumping and
splitting of sources, a recent and ongoing discussion on the LUG. The
way Source Detail is used to reduce the number of Master Source
entries.

Thanks to all for the help. I learned quite a bit from the various

Thanks for all the thoughts. I will have to get over the idea that
there is a right way to record my data. When I read Elizabeth
Mills' book, the training CDs, and other tutorial material, I got the
impression that there were more standards and conventions than there
actually are.
I think I'll

want to be one of those folks who eventually realize they need to redo
a lot of work.
Thanks.

I can do it with brackets, etc. but want to make sure that I don't use

Yes! Please keep this discussion going! Legacy sourcing is a
constant topic in this list and a frustration for many users.
Legacy could make major improvements in this area and probably make
the cost back many fold in the marketplace.

I have recently found this same line on the individual report. Some
have it and some don't. The same info on the family report does not
have the line.
It seems that if I print the Cause of Death, the next line, usually
Event will be horizontally bisected. Take Cause of Death out of
the ind.
