I just tried this and it worked for me Go to Customize Data Format Letter Case of Surnames and select... Don't change what I enter. Also make sure nothing is checked in the next section below... Displaying Surnames. If this doesn't work for you maybe someone else has a better answer.

I think all is fine with the relationship calculator. If I'm on the left side and I want to know how I'm related to my 5th great grandfather, the relationship box tells me I'm his 5th great grandson. I checked the help file for an explanation of how to interpret this but didn't find anything.
