FDB file. It will not compact a file that isn't open. And Legacy can't
open the .IGI file in a way you can compact it.

If you have MS Access 2000, you can open the .IGI file in Access and compact
the file.
When you save entries and then delete them, the database doesn't
automatically release the place holder for that data.

I have been using flash drives for about 5 years. I use a flash drive daily
for my Legacy data. I have 37,000 names. My cousin has 150,000 names and
uses a flash drive daily. He will once in a while have a problem, but it is

with just a apace. This way, both surnames are in the surname field.

What Leo was asking for was an enhancement to Legacy to accommodate what the
Notes would do. Anything added to Legacy would be lost in a gedcom transfer

the gedcom into a file. I would recommend importing it into a brand new
file and not into your working genealogy files.
