Nina, have you checked your multimedia paths under Customize/Locations?
Because that will tell you where your pictures are coming from. Once
you have that incredibly useful information you can do this:
Go to all those extra locations ( Desktop, C drive, R drive, Network
drive, etc) and find

different folders. Now I have my work cut out!!! Next I will try to find
them and put them back in the right Legacy/Picture folder. Yikes~!!!

beginning, since I've been catching bits and pieces of it for days. How

throw up a warning when
I don't know quite what your setup is there since I don't make web pages
this way. But, if this might work for you it works well. Get a good
text editor, if you don't have one, like Notepad++ or PSPad, both free,
and do a global search and replace. One click, about 5 seconds and
you're done.
Simple OCR used to be free. I guess they changed that. I don't type out
most of my historical documents. Very rarely. I can't even think of one.
What I do is scan them, crop and straighten them and attach them as
images into Legacy. Then I file the originals in my paper files.

You can also scan a picture as an image and type it out using Transcript
which splits the screen so you can see the image on top and type your
text down below. I've done lots this way but only on relatively shorter
pieces, like obits, where I want to put the text into Legacy.

After you scan your image you can link it into Events Pictures, the same
as you would link any other image. You can't copy them into Notes or
anything like that.
If you want to turn your image into text, that requires OCR software,

I use Mozy too but can't remember if you have a choice where to restore
a file to when you restore. If so that would work. If not, rename your
present file and move it temporarily while you make the changes from the
restored one. Just minor musical chairs.

not use the backup feature in Legacy? It makes dated backups, named by
date. Are those on your computer somewhere or do you make them and then

I think this was answered after I went to bed, and I'm trying to refresh
my memory 8 hours later. I keep a simple-as-possible folder structure
for thousands of genealogy-related images and other files. I don't keep
it all in the Legacy picture folder but I could. I have a 13 GB folder

Rename is a very large button in the right column between zoom and
delete underneath the thumbnail image. Renaming pictures here will save

The way the File ID's show up is under Output on the Assigned Sources
window as long as you click the Show all (or something, too lazy to open
Legacy right now) button (far left) but since Legacy 7 it doesn't stay
on between screens and has to be clicked to turn it on over and over and
over.
Those numbers also print out in reports if you want them to, right along
with the source citations, on reports where you have the options to
include detailed citations, which I don't think you could do with the
User ID's. At least not in that place.
