like a good idea. How do you name the portable device?

If you use XP, and click on Help and Support, then type change drive
letter into the search box, it will give you some simple instructions.
Otherwise, I don't know.

I have one question. If you have your current Legacy file on a USB drive how
do you your multimedia files attached and current? Do they also reside on
the USB drive?
Thanks,
G.C.Oliver

You've got a great system going from what I'm reading. Do you mind emailing
me off-list with more information about this program, and also how to add an
icon to the drive?

I'm with John on this. I have been doing this for well over a year
with great results. I never get confused as to which file contains my
most current data, as it is always on the USB Flash drive (and I have
backups on both the laptop and desktop hard drives).

There is no best. I think it really depends on which computer you consider to
be the one that you will use for the majority of your data enty. If you are
going to use them about equally, I would consider keeping the data on the
portable, but just remember that it will be subject to more abuse
. Good tip!
Thank you, Denise

If I want to use Legacy on a desktop and a laptop, is it better to keep the
data files on the desktop and move them to a portable drive for access by
the laptop? Or is it just as useful to keep the data on a portable hard
drive and access it off either computer? I can't find a reference to this
I like to use a USB Flash drive, and keep backup copies on the hard
drives of both my laptop and desktop computers.

Hi Denise, I'm not sure I'm right, but I keep my files on a FLASHDRIVE and
then also have a place to save them on my laptop and another on my desktop. I
also use a 500GB hard drive to back important files on. This is probably
over-kill, but I hate loosing my work . . . With a flash drive
You might want to check the archives link below; this has been discussed
several times over the last six months or so, along with USB flash
drives, etc. Unfortunately, it's still forbidden, but I'm sure that
it'll be fixed shortly.

Hi Denise
I have been successfully using a 2.5in Portable Drive for all of my
family history data form well over a year now. I have the portable drive
configured with drive letter X: on my desktop, laptop EeePC and swap
it as required . At the end of each session it is backed up to a NAS
