This is such a little thing you might not even notice it, but I do and
it really bugs me (pardon the pun!)
In the Assigned Sources for .. window, with the Detail open you see
headings for Detail:, Detail Comments:, Recorded Date:: and File ID.
Notice the two colons after Recorded Date? And
Jenny,
I hadn't noticed that but you promted me to have a look at the Source Detail
for Name. The Recorded Date again has the double colon after it but on this
screen the File ID does have a single colon.

How would you categorize a Baby Book Family Tree? I recently found
one of my distant cousins still has her baby book. This was filled out
by her mother and grandmothers. One grandmother was my great aunt. The
information in the baby
book gave me another source for indentifying my ggg grandfather.

Just by chance, I too just noticed this asterisk, and was puzzled by it.
But why would you need the asterisk to show
the removed cousin is the offspring of an aunt/uncle rather
than great aunt/great uncle.
That is already indicated by closeness of cousinship, i.e.
offspring of an aunt/uncle
What it means the * person is the prefered descendant
and/or direct line for RIN #1. I forgot where the
options to set these are, but there are a few choices
there.

The Preferred child is generally a direct line ancestor. This child

I don't actually need an asterisk to show me my cousins' relationships

Ron, do you also check Just leave it blank instead of Unknown?
Options Customise Data Format Word for Blank Records (Just
leave it blank.)
It works well for Legacy, but add-ons like Legacy Charting Companion
put in Unknown if the person field is blank for MRINs.

The original question referred to an asterisk next to the relationship. It
designates a relative of a later, or younger generation. E.g., my first
cousin's granddaughter is my 1st cousin, twice removed. My grandfather's 1st
cousin is also my 1st cousin twice removed. The cousin's gr dau is
Wonderful suggestions, pity my 4yo likes to come to my file while I'm
doing something else, like answering the phone. She likes to type her
name and see the pictures of herself and her grandparents - I can't

Yes, I do check Just leave it blank. I don't use Charting Companion so I
regret that I do not know if there is a way round the behaviour you mention.

Tracy,
Why don't you password protect yourself as a (Windows) User ? You could
always give your child her own User ID and stick some of the files on it - I
suspect that even a four yr old wouldn't take long to work out which is
hers!.

Tried that Ron, can't seem to lock out the programs on the start menu

I also regularly check what's been modified on my file and can pick up
changes she's made that way. Legacy is truly so flexible and user
friendly my 4yo loves using it, particularly the pedigree tab with all
the pictures. So I can relate to Bob's issues.

Interesting. I can see that now. Oops - thanks for pointing that out.
1) - Should I see the same child be listed twice (once as a 1/2 and once as a
full sibling)? Is there a way around this? Or did I do some wrong setting
with the relationships? It doesn't happen in the training videos.

My understanding on this:
1) Yes, if you selected show 1/2 siblings
to choose: right click on a child in the family view select
view select show 1/2 kids (or not)
2 3) I don't know any way to do these. That doesn't mean it can't be
done, I just don't know.
