Hi Lisa,
Good news / Bad news.
The bad news is my duplication was different from yours. After viewing your
attachment I see you have duplicate source pictures for (each) one source
citation. I had duplicate citations, each of which had the same identical
picture attachment(s) or sometimes no

When I save a backup of my family file to a memory stick directly from

Why does legacy do this and is there a way to turn it off?

This article mentions the Research Guidance tab, but I am so far unable to
locate this.
Can anyone tell exactly what steps to follow to find it?
Thanks!

Karl,
It's the tab at the top right of the opening screen!

Thanks for both of these replies. I think this must have been added in a
more recent version. I am in the Deluxe version, but v4.

Brian,
I am really confused with this thread (it doesn't take much!). Lisa says
that she does not have duplicate pictures but duplicate paths and file
names, whereas Richard tells us that there are duplicate pictures.
As attachments to this (my) email address are stripped I simply cannot
Hi Ron
You're confused.
Somehow the problem got twisted around and now Brian at Legacy support has
just told the OP to do exactly what I had suggested many days ago

Don,
I noticed that as well, but I thought that didn't provide the solution.
Lisa, if you are still following this can you please illustrate it on a
website?

In the attachment she included there are duplicate pictures in the
picture gallery. There was no screen shot showing any drive contents.
So it suggests to me she has duplicates in the directory that the
pictures are stored in since Legacy points to one directory for
pictures.

On 6/15/07,
Ron,
What Lisa has are duplicate entries in the table which links people and
pictures so Legacy displays the same picture twice in the person's
picture gallery. What she wanted was a way for Legacy to find and
automatically eliminate these duplicate entries. Since there is no such
ability in
Jim,
That is not necessarily true Jim. There is no need to have duplicate
picture files at all. There are two entries in the picture gallery table
that links the person to each of the three pictures in the example she
sent. The picture file may only exist once if the links are to the same
OK Brian, I follow that. But if Lisa has duplicate paths would they not both
show up in tblBP and if the rogue one is disabled by setting it to zero, as
I suggested before, resolve the problem?

I've kept quiet on this thread as I couldn't think of any quick way
to fix this. Like Brian, I think the best help is the Picture List
Report and then going to each gallery in turn.

Cathy,
I know it's way past my bed time but Lisa's orginal post said: Another
software program put in duplicate entries for photos and documents (all
duplicates are multimedia items) attached to the genral person or a
person's fact item. They are EXACT duplicates referencing the same
