Can someone explain to me why Legacy does not offer a way to designate
sources for pictures?
And also tell me how you indicate the picture source?
I don't want the source to appear within a report itself, but I surely
would like to have a list of picture sources at the end.
I can put the source
It's probably something the programmers never thought of. There have
been some requests for this and using the Description field is what
I've been doing.

Ron,
To test this, I inserted a PDF file into the source detail using the
multimedia tab. When clicking on the image, the PDF file opened in Adobe
Acrobat. I suspect that it will work for other PDF viewers as well.

For those that may be interested, I ran another test using the source detail in
Legacy; however, this time I used a PDF form that I had made so that
information could be entered into the relevant fields of the PDF form. In this
case it was an Individual Worksheet designed for collecting

Hi Charles,
Thank you for testing. I was aware that PDF text files could be stored in
the file area and would open fine with Acrobat Reader et al. What I had
never tried was using a PDF image. I could see no reason why it wouldn't
work, and included the minor qualification for that reason. Ian
Need help with photo's in Legacy. I've entered several pictures in Legacy

I'm coming in a little late to this discussion. The number of rolls is not
as important as the state, county, city/town, ED number in the later
census records, page number and line number.
On the 1930 and 1940 census Ancestry leave off the first numbers of the

Hi,
The most likely reason, I think, is that the full file path to the pictures is
different on the two computers.
If you have the pictures in the 'user profile area' like 'My Pictures' or
'Pictures', the full file path is often different from computer to computer,
depending upon user name
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the response. Actually I'm going between 3 computer. A desk top

Marie,
OK. First, let’s go looking for them. In Legacy, click on View, then Master
Lists, then Picture Location. The file paths (everything except the very last
part the file name itself) should be listed. What do the paths look like, is
your XP user name, or ‘documents and Settings’ in
Marie,
There is one further question, I'm afraid, but the answer may well save you
a great deal of time! Are the file names all different, or may some be the
same?

I guess you could try moving them into one location. Or leave them where
they are. Assuming they're going to go into a specific folder such as

I've taken Snipits of information on findagrave.com, given the URL as the

Syble,
It rather depends on the terms conditions of FindaGrave. I don't know
them, so I would suggest that you read them. Copyright of an image usually
belongs to the photographer (for a long, long time), but this may have been
passed to FindaGrave, who could then apply their own conditions for

But all family photo's for a specific family should be in the same file. Yes?

Marie,
I am unsure if we are talking about the same thing. The file name is the
name which you give to the picture when saving it eg. JoeBlogs.jpg, the

that constitutes part of the path not the file name eg. for a folder
In regards to your photos it looked from your screenshot that you had
your linked files on at least 6 different drives. You said 3 computers
so I'm guessing the other 3 are external hard-drives or flash-drives. ??
I'm wondering if you have backups for any of these? Or are the files

The only thing included in the family file is a link to the photo file,
the photo's themselves are NOT included. The new backup in Legacy 7 will
backup both your data and your photo files but these are in two separate
.zip files, one for the data and the second for photos.
