Assuming that you have opted to at least be given the opportunity to back up
your files when you exit the Legacy program, and then assuming you opt to
perform the back up, then you would have all the USR files as part of the back
up. If you're even more paranoid, go ahead and make a copy of
I'm not sure just how much has changed in v8 but a quick look at Help / USR
Files under v7.5 reveals this:
Address.usr - Address Label settings
AdvSrc.usr - Advanced Source Citation settings
Album.usr- Photo Album Report settings
Anc.usr - Ancestor Chart Report settings
Ances.usr-
From your “just right” setup, use Options-Customize-Options for default
settings-Save all current settings as User-Defaults.
Then in your other databases, use Options-Customize-Options for default
settings-Reset to User-Defaults.

Thanks Brian,
I did look in v8 Help file and read the usr list.
I still couldn't find which one held the Event sentence definitions.
I make regular backups and assume everything customized is backed up.
Yes, I am the paranoid type, my concern is, during a maintenance run,
on list cleanup there
Did you not get the email I sent right after you wrote? The event
sentences are part of the main Family File.

The usr files are *not* backed up when you back up the Family File.
Only those files which show on the Customize Backup window are backed
up if you leave the default selection alone.

Thanks Sherry,
I did get your previous email, didn't fully understand that
event sentences are in the .fdb file, assumed they were kept separately.
Take care,
Brian

Ron,
It was our attempt to satisfy demands from some users who wanted to be
able to customize their options for each file because they use multiple
family files either for their own research or because they are
professional genealogists who use Legacy when researching for many clients.

Kurt,
In Legacy v7.5, there does not appear to be an ‘Options for default settings
Tab’ under Customize. Could you be a bit more specific.

Kurt,
In Legacy v7.5,
So you're saying Event sentences are not USR files, and, because they are part
of the Family File, they are backed up automatically?
However, if you need to save your USR files and Color Schemes, you must back
them up separately yourself?
Have the programmers ever considered making that one of
Yes.
If you want to save your usr files and color schemes, then you need to back
up those separately.
*However* most computer system backups will automatically back up
everything in the Documents folder so if you have a regular system backup

Don’t recall seeing this rule in backup 101. However, the USR files do contain

The incomprehensible thing is why, when so many things are backed up with the

Thanks for the explanation, Brian.

This ability to save the default customize options was new and I had not seen
it discussed before. Looks like it will work great for both my purposes and
those who wish to have various settings for each database. Thanks for the
