attempted to add more people and discovered there has been an update that has
made dramatic changes to the interface (ribbon?)!

Hi Alexa,
I'm not sure what you are doing, but Legacy doesn't automatically
update. You have to choose to update.
Also there has been no automatic upgrade to version 8 or a conversion
in 7 that forces you to upgrade to 8.
Perhaps you loaded an earlier version of Legacy 7 and when you tried
to
Alexa,
The program does not automatically update. The only way it will update is if
you tell it to. There are two ways to update. You can go to the Legacy Home
tab and over on the right you will see if there is an update available. You
can then click on the update if you want to install
In Legacy 7.5 I used to enter the range of Jan-Mar 1856 by typing 1-3 1856.
This does not work the same in L8 as it converts the 1-3 into 1 Mar (UK
Date).
I do not like entering the date as Mar Q 1856 as this gets translated in
GEDCOM to From Jan to Mar and I end up with a mixture of date ranges

The Pedigree Chart REPORT does not support the two colour groups nor
does it support 8 ancestor lines. Only the four ancestor colours are
supported by the report at this time.
Did you not see my answer dated 14 Mar to Cathy on how to fix this for
the Pedigree View?
Go to Tools Set Ancestor
The answer is the same as was given to Cathy. You’ve got both groups of colors
set to the same starting person. You need to turn off the group 2 colors.
Tools - Set Ancestor Colors - Ancestor Group 2 tab - Clear All Group 2 Colors

I was simply stating that I think we need a Migration event to document when a

Good question. Just realized that I probably have not been consistent with
this. I generally have treated those in my family who, as it was termed at
the time, *migrated* west from eastern Pennsylvania to Ohio, or from
eastern Virginia to (now) West Virginia in the 1700's as a *migration* event.

That's fine - I was just pointing out the Emigration and Immigration for
those who moved between countries. You weren't specific as to the points
they were moving between.

Hi
Can someone please explain how to switch on the generation labels in Family
View - I had them on until recently where you can see if the person is your

Thank you very much in advance,

Hello,
Is there a way to include some type of address book as a chapter of a book in
the publishing center.
Thanks,

Great Report Tom!
I only had 90 couples but it alerted me to what looks like was a gedcom
import problem from long ago, whereas the country (USA) was in the postal
field, zip in the state field and country in the city field for about 30
records. Probably from a gedcom import back in 2006!
Thanks

Hey Cathy,
Thanks for your suggestion, I tried what you suggested, and it looks like
it worked. I was a little worried I would have to re do all my media again.
So Thanks for your help!!! :)
Have a great day,

Thank you much for explaining that, I wondered how it would print in a report.
I did not realize that the shared event would not completely print if the

Have you found a way around this?
Thanks

Hi Alan,
Yes, 7.5 did convert 1-3 1856 to Jan-Mar 1856 - seems like a logical choice.
I have had ongoing discussions with Legacy with the Quarter dates and suggested
enhancements. So far, the only 'productive' thing to happen is the recognition
that entering Jan-Feb-Mar 1856 is simply deleted
Now that is scary, but how would I know, unless I came across a location I knew
to be incorrect. Had you been making any changes/corrections/cleanup in the
Master Locations? Any recent Search/Replace actions?

I started getting suspicious while I was adding to the db on Sunday
afternoon - there were several with the same location and I had a feeling
that they shouldn't have been. I did a print out from the Master Locations
list for that particular location - 149 pages - 50 entries on each page

Hi Anne,
I sure hope you have a recent backup. Even then it could have been ages to
notice that things were wrong. It looks like the only solution is to go
through those 7500 entries and check them against a previous file. Wow, a huge
job.
Again, even a backup would only have saved you

Yes - I back up regularly - and do regular maintenance checks. I've traced
a 'correct' backup to the 5 March, but I'm still going to have to go
through each entry.
