All the gripes about MyHeritage buying Legacy is pretty much mirror of Ancestry
when they went on buying spree.
The user looses out yet
It was the user's who did and STILL DO, I will stress but that both Legacy and
MyHeritage are still doing a good job of looking after members (wish multiple
I agree with CE WOOD, I believe Heritage bought Legacy yo get their users
buying into their online genealogy database and abandoning Legacy, it’s much
more profitable for them. Well I’m not buying into that.
And speaking about backup, I never used their online backup anyway. I store all
my
I also use dropbox. I have dropbox installed on 2 computers at home,
this will automatically update when I use the second computer. I only
use legacy on one computer to avoid any syncing issues. I then also have
an external drive on my 1st computer using backup software this then
runs
Yes. Legacy was bought by MyHeritage to shut it down. They would much prefer
their own, inadequate FamilyTreeBuilder as their only data base program. Thus,
the fact that theirs automatically updates your website on MH, whereas
uploading new LegacyFamilyTree files requires re-linking all photos
I have my local DropBox folder as the default location for all my Legacy
locations, including the installed folder and the data and media folders. That
provides me with an automatic off-site backup location. Then I can use other
local media as a local backup. I understand the issues of
Another wishlist feature adding to what others have requested is an extra
backup option. I know there were legal/logistic issues when the Legacy
cloud storage option was removed. However I would like to have both a
"local" and a "remote" backup option. Local is local to the PC or home
network.
The issues with Hints is not down to Legacy. It is limited by the speed
that the websites will response to the requests that it receives and the
limitations that they have put on Legacy, plus if they change their
interface then Legacy has to update the system. That has been the recent
issues with
What I'm hoping for is that I'll be able to upload not only the
individuals, and what user controls come in a gedcom, but all that's in
individuals' Media Gallery as well to websites such as myheritage.com, and
from the little I understand, it seems that will never be possible.
Correct? I don't
I too have become disenchanted with Legacy Family Tree. One of the main reasons
I switched to it was to get hints from MyHeritage. I keep seeing lots of
complaints about the hinting mechanism not working or being down. I was also
impressed with all of Legacy's features that aren't in the other
Generally so am I, but it could be better.
Unfortunately, to do that will require a total rebuild, given that the
Legacy application is still written in VB 6. The Charts program seems to
be written in Borland (now Embarcadero) Delphi and the Hints program is
.NET based.

To publish my data online I use TNG (The Next Generation genealogy software). I
use Legacy as my main database on my home computer and export (whenever I made
some changes or additions) a Gedcom file to my website and import it into my
online database. There I have a lot of additional report
Generally I’m really satisfied with Legacy, even the little antiquated
interface doesn’t bother me. And it has a lot of functions and report options
that other programs don’t have. So really don’t understand why this bug wasn’t
fixed. I just don’t believe it needs a lot of rewrite to put a
The problem is that Legacy needs a total rebuild, which I had hoped that
MH would provide the funding.
I have looked at both the MH Family Tree Builder and at Roots magic.
Both have a more modern design and are functional across multiple
operating systems. But they do not seem to have the
I am going to chime in here! I have my own website with a page devoted to
recommending Legacy Family Tree based on the commendable merits of the
software. After waiting for so long for this “bug” to be fixed, as well as
other issues, I too must consider a change. Seems like since MyHeritage
I agree. I am having the same problem and unhappy is putting it mildly.

I know this was mentioned before. If I remember right, in the last
update to Version 9 (*9.0.0.393) *which came in August 2021, there was a
bug introduced that prevented several reports (for sure the descendant
report) to add parents to spouses and children. I believe we waited
patiently
