Indexes created at your fingertips! Be part of an international initiative

class, by FamilySearch's Devin Ashby, will give you indexing background and
basics to help you understand where to begin, how to help, and what we can
Hi Cathy, Thanks for replying.
I believe I need to make new specific events on each person and move the census
(and other things) from sources for that person to the new events.
When these were originally input, about 35-40 years ago, there wasn't a
distinction between the source and its
Events might work well for me too, but I'd appreciate suggestions on other
Legacy features which might help - or cautions about traps which I could run
into. Basically, I'm using the program for two things. My children aren't much
into genealogy and family history, so I'm building a record for
The charting service uses paper in 3 different widths: 24, 36 and 48
inches and several qualities. This is roll type paper for banners not
single sheets.
The total size of your chart will be a function of the number of people
included in your chart plus your choices of box sizes and spacing
Yes Brian, I understand all that. I'm at the point where I want to order
the chart, but am not sure about which width is appropriate. I don't want
it too spaced out, nor too compressed. I cannot tell by the screen visual
whether this will be the case. So does the order process default to the
best

In the publishing center I've selected a calendar report.
Via Edit settings for current chapter button I then:
Included all individuals, living or dead
Under Format changed all colors to black and white manageable format colors
Under Months change text color to black, background to white

I do not think the order process sets any default sizes. The only
default is that sizes extend in 1 foot increments for the selected
roll width.
Your other questions are aesthetic and only you can say what is too
compressed or too spaced out. If you want to see the full size you can
expand the
Is there a way to do a FIND and REPLACE on my Master Locations?
Such as replace all the TX values with Texas.
Thanks

I don’t know of any “Find and Replace” for the Master Location list. You’d
probably just have to SORT… and then move the STATE to the top of the list and
then scroll down on your list until you find all the TX locations together.
Then EDIT each one to TEXAS.

Hi Rick,
In the simplest form (read my caution)...
Go to Search/Search Replace.
In the pop up window...
Find where: Lists-Location
Find what: TX
Replacement Text: Texas
Anywhere in the field
Replace only found text with replacement
This has been confirmed as a problem with the program. It appears that
the Calendar Report in the Pubs Centre is not retaining user settings. I
have submitted a report to have this fixed.

Awesome, thank you! Does not help me in getting the calendar I want, but I
think I came up with a work around!

In the Master Location List, go to Options Expand/Contract Location Parts.
There's a selection to expand the locations, which will change TX to Texas.
However you must have those locations in the four part format of city/town,
county, state, country, with commas for missing elements otherwise
Brian,
I suspect that many users, like myself, create these calendars to send to
relatives for the new year. Could you, therefore, remind the programers that in
many cases this is time sensitive.

You can still obtain a workable calendar from the reports drop down. The
problem only appears to be in the Publication Center one.
The calendar output leaves a lot to be desired though. I really need an output
other than PDF, such as txt, rtf, doc, or even an xml type.
