Legacy has to be installed on your computer and it uses this folder
...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\ for your Legacy settings. You
cannot move or rename any of this. If you do, it will simply be
recreated with default settings next time you start Legacy.

I am putting all my family photos on an external drive using the program
Heritage collector. Is it possible to install Legacy 8 on an external hard
drive and it be workable or do I have to install on the main Drive on the
computer this I would like to do for my four children that I might leave
