Install LibreOffice on Windows XP (other Windows machines might be affected also but definitely XP) 2. Uninstall LibreOffice Observed: Square characters, no text at all in uninstaller (see attached) Expected: Correct characters Looks very unprofessional so I set it to Critical, I am almost positive that this is a duplicate but I can't find the dupe (apologies). IMO Uninstaller working/looking incorrectly borders on blocker. This makes me suspect it's extensions of some kind tricking your system. So solution: Backup and then delete your profile, uninstall LibreOffice entirely, ensure that everything JRE related is gone. Reinstall LibreOffice. Hm, seems to by my misinterpretation. But I still haven't a clue what we are
talking about. Of course (?) key names stay in German. I checked entries for
Functions-Category Format in pane Function and found no German item.

The point is that the definition of Microsoft Word documents (seen in the installer) doesn't include RTF documents, it's just too broad. Going down this path, why not associate TXT files even? It does, however, include DOCX, so I don't think anyone could ever argue against it. The default installation behavior doesn't need to change, if that's the issue here. But the editing-time before the first save is not recognised and lost. In AOO this bug is not present, AOO 3.4.1 count the editing-time directly from creating (a new document) or opening a document till the first save (and later). !!! If I convert file to iso8859-2 (ISO standard for central europe) I can't open too. It seems that problems is rather related to UTF8 and non-UTF8 files (but only those that contains national specified characters). LO seems to have problems with opening files that have other XML header than ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? or ?xml version=1.0? As I said in one earlier comments... That worked perfect with OpenOffice 3.0... so if someone once added this encoding then why it's deleted for now ???
