One other approach you might consider, since examples like this
require a lot of hand-tuning, is to add the required accidentals
as \markup. The Learning Manual has an example of doing this to
engrave b! bes. See left-padding and right-padding in section
4.5.2 Fixing overlapping notation.

Hello,
I'm a new and enthusiast user of Lilypond.
I'm trying to put the composer name and some dates in the composer field in
two separate lines, but I find that the vertical spacing between the
COMPOSER_NAME and the (1555-1666) is too big.
Anyone can explain me how to reduce this space??

hi all,
well, so far I tried myself to find a solution for this and came to the point
where scheme is the only way to do this.
My scheme is very limited, especially the connection to the ly:functions is
something I don't really get yet. I simply don't know how to apply these
functions I guess,

Generally I thought I could define a music-function that overrides the

filled notes.

Hi Lilypond, Abcm2ps, Mup users,
I'm attaching the shell script I was talking about. It works for

Yes. Thanks Neil, you're my man. =)
It'd have taken me ages to figure out that I have to use grob-property and
'duration-log.
But I already thought that ly:make-duration was wrong.
Now I see it it makes sense and it was no problem to insert another custom
stencil for whole and half notes.

I made the letters a couple of sizes bigger and italics. You can adjust
