You could use \tag to remove the \set, or you could use <<>> to combine \solo with another staff containing only \set and spacer rests. I like using that technique to keep tempos and marks (structure) separate from the actual content. Or, as David mentioned, you could just set

Oops Your answer works but there is something else I'd like to be able to do (not to be greedy ...). I like to embed lots of \set TabStaff.minimumFret = ... in music to force the tab to be where I want it. I find that with a small number of hints like this, I can avoid having to specify
