I was able to get my 3490 drives online to the test LPAR O/S. I didn't actually run anything to allocate/use a drive but the CHPID, PATH, and devices all came online. My 3490's are parallel channel attached and the CHPID is defined as reconfigurable. I varied the devices and path offline and

I try a 'rpm --install nano-1.2.3-1.src.rpm' and absolutely nothing happens. rpm -qlp nano-1.2.3-1.src.rpm shows the files that will be unpacked by the rpm. You either want to rpm -bb the_spec_file or simply rpm --rebuild nano-1.2.3-1.src.rpm. Good luck, ~ Daniel

thanks for the info richard! we used to do this quite a bit with our 3480s and printers. you can also reassign the chpid on the mvs consoles, rather that going through the hmc: CF CHP(xx) OFF CF CHP(xx) ON as long as the paths have been previously varied offline, you shouldn't have a problem.

Robin, If the .tdf method isn't working for you, take a look at http://home.iae.nl/users/rvdheij/linuxipl.html for another way to not have to use tape. The example uses names from SUSE, but it should work with any other distribution. Mark Post

Ok, here's the answer to your xdm problem. When I build Slack/390, I was on a system that used a virtual QDIO device. QDIO/QETH requires IPV6 support. IPV6 was enabled as a kernel module, not in the kernel. If you do a modprobe ipv6 to load IPV6, you should be able to start xdm. If you want to
