Mount your new root file system on /mnt. Mount your new boot file
system on /mnt/boot. _Then_ chroot /mnt to do the rest of your work.

Greetings; (Posted to VMESA-L and VSE-L and LINUX-390)

I have set up a public service web page at

Hi.
Here's the background.
We're trying to setup a solution to shutdown all Linux Guests in case
the UPS starts working on Batteries.
For that, we want to have a Linux Guest monitoring the UPS state and
reporting to VM so it can issue a Shutdown signal to all the Linux
Guests. We've already
So, is there a Windows command (or Linux command) that will
tell me who
is the PDC and/or the master browser? Perhaps that command
will help
me understand when I actually made a change to this process.
You'll need to interrogate the WINS server database, or use a sniffer,
I
think. I don't
If you install the cpint package on the monitoring Linux to invoke CP commands,
you can issue SIGNAL directly from that instance. It would need the correct
directory authorization for shutting down other servers.

How about BROWSTAT, a command line query tool, or BROWMON, a gui based
tool, both on Windows?
They used to be on the Resource Kit CD, but you can download them from
MS as well I think.
Thanks for the pointer. Found them on TUCows as well. They do show you
the information -- but -- you have to

How does the UPS report a move-to-battery condition? There are
plenty of tools

the Shutdown

How Can it be done?

Suggestion: if your UPS is capable of sending a SNMP trap to a

receives the trap from the UPS, configure an action routine to use the

Does anyone have a link that they could share, were I can get a copy of
a Java compiler that will run on a Z/800 LPAR running Linux suse sles 8?
My understanding is that it must be specific to the platform it will be
installed on or it will not work.
I obtained java for SLES 8 from IBM's site; it has it for s390 and
zseries
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/pick.do?source=lxdk
you probably will hit an IBM sign on screen
(need to register with IBM; I registered too long ago to remember any
details that'll help you with it.)
We may be getting PPRC capable dasd for our VM LPAR's. The VM LPAR dasd here
will be copied to an alternate data center and vice versa a VM LPAR there
will be copied here. Our zOS folks are already doing PPRC but it will be new
to us. What are the basic concerns as far as VM with SuSE linux guests
Neale Ferguson has contributed new Mono 1.1.7 RPMs for Linux/390. The
RPMs are contained in one gzipped tar file, mono117.tgz.
bytefx-data-mysql-1.1.7-2.novell.s390.rpm
ibm-data-db2-1.1.7-2.novell.s390.rpm
mono-basic-1.1.7-2.novell.s390.rpm
mono-complete-1.1.7-2.novell.s390.rpm
Do you want/need a Java _compiler_, or a Java SDK, or just the Java
runtime (JRE)?
If you want a compiler, the GNU Compiler Collection contains one, named
gcj. If you want the SDK or JRE, IBM provides those here:
http://www6.software.ibm.com/dl/lxdk/lxdk-p
Downloading them will require no-cost
I would say do the same thing, but specify the dasd_mod, and
dasd_eckd_mod modules. There is another method to do this, which I
can't remember at the moment, that involves updating a file in /etc/
(perhaps modules.conf), but the --with approach works.

I want to setup a STANDARD VIPA and use ZEBRA for OSPF dynamic routing.
I am using two OSA ports, on two different cards.
Interface eth0 is on one subnet and eth1 is on another subnet... and I
have VIPA
defined in another subnet.
What I need info on is HOWTO setup ZEBRA for this STANDARD VIPA.
You were correct Mark!
The --with worked fine.
Thanks very much.
