I find it interesting that nobody so far mentioned RFC1178 (Choosing a
name for your computer): ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc1178.txt.
There are several excellent ideas in that document.
Wow! Thanks. Been looking for that.
That is a good reference, I agree. I could add one

Anyone ever come across this error at boot time.
Before the boot I formatted and added 53 3390 packs and when I tried to

So I could not update that.

Mark,
I have SLES8 with GNU wget 1.8.2 and SLES9 with GNU wget 1.9.1
Do you know if either of those supports NTLM authentication?
The SLES 9 wget man page says wget uses the basic authentication
scheme; it doesn't mention NTLM auth.

True. Conversely, it also makes sense to have each interface have a
unique name as well, eg foo-eth0, foo-eth1, etc. There are often cases
where it's very useful to be able to reference a specific interface

If your PCs are running DOS, 437 is ok. Use 819 for Unix/AIX. 1252 for

We just shook our EMC reps to get the RPQ in place for this. I
questioned why they were so far behind supporting FC links from the
mainframe as a standard feature and that they were waiting for customer
demand. My point was if they didn't support it now I should just go to a

John Romanowski has contributed an interesting HOWTO and script for doing bare
metal restores of a Linux system running on z/VM. Thanks to John for doing
the write up and sharing his work on the script with all of us.

I have word from EMC that the DMX (Symmetrix) is supported (look in the
ESM for FCP over Ficon) and no RPQ is required. I'm trying to get
clarification on the Clarion. I would push your EMC reps on this as we
have escalated fairly high -- you might be able to get different
response now.

I noticed that the replies were coming directly to me and not the list. I
don't have that proble with VSE-L, IBMMAIN, or IBMVM so they must override the
