Thanks to everyone that responded. We had a couple of problems that we
eventually corrected. Our main problem was caused by the CICS Transaction
Gateway (ctg) not returning control from the Linux INIT script. I will
pass along the steps we took for those newbies like myself, who might find

modprobe: modprobe: Can?t open dependencies file
/lib/modules/2.4.21-107-default/modules.dep (no such file or directory)
I have no network connectivity and my HMC console does not seem to be

I am running one Linux in a native LPAR. How can I get access to Linux to
run the zipl. I have the HMC console and see messages but it does not seem
to respond to any commands.

Normally when I boot Linux, I receive an id prompt where I log on as root
and then I am able to enter commands. I no longer receive the prompt and
any command I enter via the HMC does

Can you boot the starter system and then mount the installed disks,
chroot to the installed root and re-run zipl?

This is his best option, I believe. Keeping those old tapes and VM reader
files laying around can be a lifesaver at times like this.
