I would like to thank all of the responders for all their suggestions as they
were very helpful.
Removing the xstore from the vm 630 solved the problem; paging dropped to near
zero and aux storage usage has dropped to 1% from 96%.
We are now using the z13 which has solved my cpu utilization

I am a systems programmer at Primerica Life Insurance.
We have been running SLES linux under VM for nine years.
We only have four production VMs on one lpar using a single IFL.
We will be installing a Z13 in Jan 2016 which has required me to upgrade all
SLES 10.3 VMs to SLES 11.4 and VM from 540
I believe CMMA was withdrawn, and function completely removed in SLES 11.

No. The cmm.ko kernel module is still there, even in SLES12 SP1.

My kernel parm has cmma=on.
Is there a way to display that it is actually active?

Hi Bruce
A conversion piece that is frequently forgotten during VM upgrades is what is
your MDC (minidisk cache) setting?
Q MDC
The default (perhaps use to be) all storage was availa
I'm sure cmm.ko is what has been called CMM-1. CMMA has been called CMM-2.

still there:
You also have to distinguish CMM-2 full (SLES10) and CMM-2 lite.
We were not able to bring the full CMM-2 version upstream, but

Hi Jim, welcome to the mailing list.
z/VM 6.3 had many changes to memory management, and it will use more paging
space. For one, it will write pages out "early", meaning before it has to
actually free up a page. As part of that, XSTORE is no longer recommended
and I'd suggest the next time you
