Anybody knows if this is applicable to SLES 9.0 too.

There are two options, vmhalt and vmpoff.
It works, if you specify
vmpoff=LOGOFF
and use
halt -p or poweroff
If you specify
vmhalt=LOGOFF

Yes, it works here with:
parameters = root=/dev/dasdc1 selinux=0 TERM=dumb elevator=cfq

you can specify both, the vmpoff and vmhalt option.
