There is another monitor available - RMFPM. If you have RMF running on

You don't need zOS to use RMFPMS, although it adds functionality. The
RMFPMS tool has a web interface so it can be used stand-alone. The VM
Performance Toolkit also understands RMFPMS and can display the
information.

I have checked the /tmp/db2setup.err.running file and it is empty. I
checked for any little text files that may have been created during the

After we get VM installed, we're going to need a console device.(IBM is
doing the install) We've a 2074 on board so should be able to route console
traffic with that but what sort of device should we use? Data center
manager is wondering if it can be a PC, and if so will a TN-3270 emulator
work?

I setup a VM Guest Lan with two Linux/390 guests. After doing an IFCONFIG to set the
addresses to 192.168.8.1 and 192.168.8.2, I see that they can't PING each other. I can
see that the interface is up and there appears to be a route.

Yes, but only for real emergencies. None of the full-screen editors will work (In

I find the 3215 is no less functional, frankly.
Sure, you can perform emergency repairs, if you know ed or sed, or, my
favorite, cat +

Yeah, ned is nice. The licensing cost can be an issue with clients,

I've had Rick Troth's cmsfs in SuSE SLES8 (2.4.19 kernel) for some time now. I've
just recently upgraded to SLES8-SP3 with the 2.4.21 kernel.
I took the cmsfs-1.1.8 code and did
make clean
./configure
make
make install
to build it for the new kernel.
When I insmod cmsfs I get

is what makes up the kernel module, so you can put it in there.

Thanks, Mark,
I tried that and it didn't seem to help. The module appears to work fine, it just
gives me the tainted message at load time.

I thought I added that already for 1.1.8.
Evidentally not? I'll collect-up what is under development

The VSWITCH OSA devices are attached to no one. CP will drive them but use
the VM TCPIP stack to initialize the devices. CP uses the *VSWITCH IUCV
service to talk with the stack. The stack will issue the necessary CCWs to
get the OSAs initialized. From that point on CP will drive the devices

While I'm looking at CMS FS (the module, the driver),
should it be installed in /lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/fs
or in /lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/fs/cmsfs? Most FS modules
go in a sub-dir. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me,
because most of those appear to have only one file.

Sure, Rick, I can test it. Just let me know when and where.
Actually, I found my problem and it wasn't your problem.
If you look back in this string of notes, you'll see I admit to

make
make install
It also helps if you do
make modules
make install_modules
I was still trying to
If there is even one module that is not in a subdirectory, go ahead and do
the same. If they are _all_ in a subdirectory, make one for cmsfs.

My install was done to /lib/modules/2.4.21-83-default/kernel/fs/cmsfs.o in SuSE SLES8
SP3. that's where the ./config wanted to put it and that's where mkinitrd and insmod
found it.

RATS ... working with 2.4.21.
Prior to that, the highest I had done CMS FS with was 2.4.19.

Thanks to all that responded. I didn't know that you could define multiple address
tripods for the adapter in the IOCP. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks again!
