unsureness about what is loading what from where.
I found that linking them with
ln -s /usr/local/etc/ax25 /etc/ax25 or such
solves a *lot* of problems, and I've been worry free since.

Something i've found helpful on lists is to state the problem simply (i.e.
just a couple of pages) and then wait patiently for the answer. Definatly
do not yell at the whole list if you don't get an immidiate answer.

The new 2.2.x kernels have this off by default.
I thought, however, that redhat enabled it at boot time.

Now add:
alias tty-ldisc-5 mkiss
to /etc/conf.modules. This should make mkiss auto-load.
It's also worth putting:
alias net-pf-3 ax25
in the same file.
