During installation process all is ok, there is no problems regarding

I also applied 7,0,1 patches, but that could not be the problem, i

This should at least tell you if the PC itself recognizes it.

 Hi,
in answer to the first question no linux can't damage a pc. I would
look at memory first. Many non starting errors are found there.

 Phil

I'd be opening up the pc, taking anti-static precautions, and unplug and
plug everything (including memory). Look if the CMOS battery has
spilled its guts over the motherboard. Check fans. Vacuum dust out.

No, because there is no hardware raid on the above controllers. It's all

Thanks. Its good to know those cards are in use elsewhere :)

I'll look into the case idea.

You can get an external case for less than that price. Well, I got mine through
e-bay for about US$35 (include shipping).
However, I can't use it to listen to music (no audio output in the case). Second, I
don't know how to setup the jumper so that I can change the SCSI ID without open it
up... Thanks god that I don't need to change my SCSI device ID and I do not use
CD-RW to play music at all.
If you want to buy an external case for your internal SCSI CD-RW, make sure it can
satisfy your need,

Good luck.

Alex.

I'm running redhat 5.2 and have a parallel port zip 100 drive that I
can't quite get to work...

When installing redhat, there is an option in the scsi adaptors setup
section to install the ppa driver, so I tried that, and by probing, it
failed to find the device. I tried specifying parameters, like the
address and whatnot, and it still did not work, it hangs the computer
looking for the drive (I entered the resources for my parallel port as
they are shown in Windows, the parameters I added were "ppa=0x378,7" I'm
not sure if that is correct, but I had to do the same for my scsi
adaptor, and that worked ok.)

I installed redhat without the ppa module, and tried installing one of
the newer kernels (2.2.9), and I noticed that there are two zip modules
now, ppa and imm for newer drives. I have fairly new zip drive, but the
cable does not say 'autodetect' like the information in the kernel setup
says. I tried compiling the kernel with ppa, when that didnt work, with
imm. Neither worked, and anytime I type "insmod ppa" (after first
installing redhat and also after upgrading the kernel) it says that the
ppa.o device is busy.

I'm not sure what else to try, any help would be appreciated...

Try mounting it as partition 4:

btw you can also make ext2 filesystems on zipdisks... very cool...
