In the XFS kernel tree v2.4.3 w/ several patches,
we were unable to raidhotremove and subsequently
raidhotadd a spare without a reboot. It did not
matter if you had a new or the same hard disk. We then
tried the patch Igno Molnar sent regarding the issue.
On June 1, Neil Brown e-mailed me in response to the file output he asked me for:
mdstat:
Personalities : [3 raid1]
read_ahead not set
md0 : inactive
md1 : inactive
md2 : inactive
md3 : inactive
This indicates that you haven't patched your kernel with the raid
patches.
