I seem to remember that my Firefox installation was fairly straightforward - with one annoying bit.

1. Downloaded firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz and saved it to "/home/js/programs/mozilla"
2. Extracted contents into "/home/js/programs/mozilla/firefox"
3. Added "/home/js/programs/mozilla/firefox/firefox" (the Firefox script) to my favourites menu.
4. Annoying bit: Grabbing the Firefox logo from their website and creating an icon in the Gimp. I'll happily pass the png-file on.
5. Investigated the extensions & plugins :-)

A word of warning: If you upgrade to a new version, either delete everything, or install to a new directory.
