When I enter su followed by my password in a terminal (Konsole rxvt) I
now get the above error message. This occurrs immediately after
rebooting starting kde, with the terminal being the only app
running.
I can su to root if kde is not running

Read a different part of the instructions this morning = problem solved
by using a bash script to read the db and write a html file to pass via
html2ps to the printer. With the aid of another script the whole lot
runs in the background very nicely so far. It does not use php.

that linux will set the a attribute if it has been cleared
under dos/win.
In a terminal 'mount' (ret) will tell you whether the ptn is mounted,
make sure it is rw, not ro. 'mount /c' or 'mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /c'
should mount it

If you have a dos/vfat/windows ptn, don't forget to check/edit the last?
line of /etc/updatedb.conf and make sure vfat is NOT in the list of
filesystems to exclude.
Caused a lot of muttering around here until I edited the conf file and
reran updatedb.

btw the LTmodem drivers for the 2.4 kernel do nor work with the 2.6 kernel
to locate.'. As root, opera works fine, also as user for
local files. I can not find a setting in Opera which could affect this,
any help on this would be appreciated.

I played around with the Mandrake setup and got a gui startup screen
this time. Selecting kde crashed kde but with a msg 'no write authority
for .ICEauthority'. I started icewm, changed my permissions and
restarted X and kde = success.

1. ctl-alt-del to kill X
2. ctl-alt-bs to reboot.
3. you may have to shut down progs first if you wish to keep settings,
or if confirmation is required.
with M8.2 only 2 and 3 apply
