understanding is that you WANT to have the distal joint
relaxed, to the point where it bends backwards (extension). What you want
to avoid is actively flexing (bending) the distal joint forward, which
produces the tense hand position and harsh tone.

is very stable in tune. My luthier (renatus lechner) told
me that he works in his workshop with an air dehumidifier (30 - 40 %
humiditiy).
