My dear old friend, John McCormick—the man who happened to be Paul
O'Dette's first classical guitar teacher, who introduced Paul to (and
sold Paul his first) lute—passed away suddenly on 30 March 2017. After
his military service, he founded an early incarnation of a guitar
society in Columbus, OH, operated a music store for some years, worked
as a classical-music DJ (back when WCBE still played classical music),
and was a guitar instructor at Denison University in Granville. In
recent years, he remained a tireless researcher and collector of
Italian art song with plucked-string accompaniment, occasionally
receiving grant funding to support related travel. He had also been
recently active typesetting several publications of guitar and lute
music. I knew him as a generous, caring man, devoutly dedicated to
family and friends, who loved profound conversations about profound
music. John, I miss you. Visiting hours are at 1:00 and memorial
service at 2:00 on Saturday, 8 April 2017 at Schoedinger, 6699 N. High
   St., Worthington, OH.
