Does 'auto' work? When I choose math (auto), with cursor in plain text, math toolbar is still there.

poor interaction with kde (shutdown)

When trying to shutdown kde (4.1), it did not exit, for no obvious reason. Eventually I clicked on the 'lyx' icon on the panel, and it was giving the 'save/discard' dialog. It did not seem to have raised this dialog, so I didn't notice it. Not very friendly behavior - and AFAIK the only app

The blank menus happen just once. There's no problem in the second and subsequent times that I run lyx-1.6.0rc2. So, it's not a very serious problem so far, but a tough one to debug. are you able to reproduce it, when you remove ~/.lyx directory ? what are your environment variables
