Actually, try this. Factually the same but the debug output is gone,

Sorry for the late reply .. I had to support a customer ..

Yes, selecting above and/or below the workarea is smoother. This I like.
But, may it be possible to disable the timer while selecting inside the workarea?
It is a little annoying to have to wait for the selection, even if you are
selecting only some few characters.

But even so, this is far better then before, so I vote for apply it.

Cursor positioning with Pointer/Keys from minipage

There seems to be a new effect.

1.) Position the cursor via pointer inside a minipage
2.) move the cursor down via a key until you leave the minipage
3.) repeat 1. and 2. (one or more times)

Each time the cursor leaves the minipage, it is one row farther in text.
(The very first time it is on row 1, even if the minipage starts at say row 20)

Yes please. I cannot reproduce. Here, a minipage from an 1.3.4 file with
 width=70 col% is read in correctly. Also examples/fr_Minipage.lyx. examples/
Minipage.lyx, however, is read in with a wrong width value, but this is the
same in 1.3.4. Minipage.lyx uses width=45p%, which is not valid anymore
 (lyx2lyx issue?).

This minipage example is a left over of previous lyx-1.4cvs versions.

OK, your file has \lyxformat 225, while the Minipage-(Frameless) Boxes
conversion is 223 - 225. I'd say this is a bleeding edge result where I'd
leave you on your own. If you change \lyxformat to 223, the minipage is read
 in correctly (also the width).

I can live with this. Nonetheless it was still possible to insert
such a minipage in current CVS (without your patch of course)

Function minipage-insert.

Hm, my patch does not make anything worse. tex2lyx produces \lyxformat
  225 files, while lyx2lyx's minipage-box conversion happens between 223
and 225. So files with minipages produced with this version of tex2lyx
will cause problems (as Kornel's file) in any case, unless we bump
version to 226 and shift the minipage-box conversion to 225-226.

Try it: Current LyX without your patch can read the minipages that tex2lyx
currently produces (although they cannot be inserted via menu anymore).

You can produce them with
M-x minipage-insert

Ok, so I was not the only one ...

As nobody else cares, I tried to look into this. The problem here is,
that
QFontInfo(font).family().latin1()
returns NULL. The conversion to string afterwards leads to crash.

Changing lines
return QFontInfo(font).family().latin1();
to
const char *x = QFontInfo(font).family().latin1();
return x?x:;

gives me at least a working qt-lyx version.

May this be of some help to anyone?

Before applying this patch, though, I would like to understand why we

The patch I am using now without any crash is attached. The selected fonts may
have some unwanted default value, but at least you are then able to select your

Hmm, that's interesting. Why would fromqstr() help us here?

It is not fromqstr() helping. It is only, that QFontInfo(font).family().latin1()
returned NULL under gdb-controll, while
fromqstr(QFontInfo(font).family()) did not. There was also a discussion with a patch
for a similar problem about half a year ago, but I do not remember on which of the
lyx-lists.
I tried myself to find a working function to get what latin1() was supposed to.
Looking on the qt-sources it seemed to me fromqstr() would be ok. It worked here,
but I remained quiet, as nobody else had a problem with screen-fonts.

This patch can safely go in I think, so if it works, it works, but it's
 still curious.

Keyboard mapping not working in 1.1.6cvs

2000-12-28 Thread Kornel Benko

Hi there,
I have a working kmap-file for 1.1.5, which is of little use in 1.1.6cvs
For instance the entry
\kmod : umlaut all
used for "a" gives

KeySym is colon[58] State is [1]
action first set to [-1]
meta_fake_bit is [0]
action now set to [-1]

Workarea Diff: 976
KeySym is a[97] State is [0]
action first set to [-1]
meta_fake_bit is [0]

The effect is a "blank" followed by "a".

Is this intentional?

Restart LyX.
Set and save "background"

So ...
Make a document (main.lyx) which includes another one (in.lyx)
Last paragraph in in.lyx be centered

Looking in the tex-file, the last paragraph looks like

Sorry if this is a bit outdated, but this bug still seems to exist.

In figinset.C there seems to be a problem with execlp if one uses
 ghostscript 6.51 +

The gs process starts but never exits. Why I don't know. One can go
into /proc and see the commandline arguments, but this doesn't explain
where it hangs. If you're curious I could try to strace gs. But for now
 I'll just report the workaround.

Confirmed. On my system the backtrace of gs looks like:
...
(gdb) symbol-file /usr/bin/gs_x11
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/gs_x11...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
(gdb) attach 6343

#17 0x0806ead1 in main ()
#18 0x402a57ee in ?? ()

If using ghostscript 5.50 it always works fine.

Here too, but other programs like kghostview not working anymore.

On my system lyx 1.1.6-fix3 works with Ghostscript 6.51 when setting
 \ps_command to /usr/bin/gs
 in lyxrc.defaults or equivalent

No help here with this configuration.

It's the first argument to execlp which must end with a space (works
also when setting the first string to )

Playing with execlp() didn't help me.
Seem to be the standard for SuSE 7.3 update, at least all of my colleagues
have the same effect.

Hi Lars, I quote here myself

please answer privatelly. I am on the list, but not under this address.
Therefore I see the answers only in the mail-archive some hours later.

 My xforms-version is
   xforms-0.89-369

I upgraded now from
forms-0.89-369
to
xforms-0.89-387 and xformsd-0.89-387.
Totally recompiled. (rpm -tb lyx-1.2.0cvs.tar.gz)

The same behaviour. Crash on open of the lyx-file. Not reproducible
with other pictures. Not reproducible with the debug-version of lyx.

I still fails for me, probably because I am using lyxstring and either
 (1) our use of istringstream is wrong or (2) there is a bug in
 lyxstring.

However, the following simple patch just works, as far as I know.

Works for me too. (I mean, now the math-Dialog with parenthesis, which was not working
for me before)

Ok, then bugger Jean-Marc to commit it, I have currently the xo/yo in my
local tree that makes committing formulabase.C a bit difficult.

So, please Jean-Marc, would you like to commit it?
The math-delimiter-dialog was broken, and your patch fitts exactly.

Now it is ok. Of course, without labels. (Editing the lyx-file

Maybe (as Andre writes) because of underscores.

I like this math-preview with labels. But now

Clicking inside a math opens a editable math-box.
Then
1.) not predictable, part of the formula is selected.

If I afterwards click with the laft-hand-mouse outside, then big
part of text is selected. Sometimes up to the end of current document.
Cursor (and mouse-pointer) are positioned at the end of the selected area.

Moving from the formula with cursor-keys is ok.

Some strange interation with underline.sty? This isn't preview-specific
however. File a bug report and badger Herbert ;-)

Well, I don't think so. underline.sty may have to do something with display
after the latex-call, but here it is the display of an internal table in lyx.
(The lyx-file itself is not corrupted, lyx-1.2 is working ok)

Don't ask me why this is needed.

I did not understand, why that would be of any help.

There is a line in Makefile.am:
XFORMSGIMAGE = xformsGImage.C xformsGImage.h
so recreating Makefile.in and Makefile does nothing, as
../../../../src/frontends/xforms/xformsGImage.C
does no exist.

The only help here was a symbolic link
ln -s xformsImage.C xformsGImage.C
in the
frontends/xforms
directory.

Starting lyx i got a SIGSEGV after parsing of .cdef file.
I will wait, until the problen with Edwin disappears.

 You should fix this with

 mv temp ColMathXLII.lyx

I am not very happy with this. This document is perfectly ok with lyx-1.2, as far as I
can see.
And there are still problems with its math-labels and lyx-1.3.

As a consequence this is the output of lyx-1.2:
Token: 'lyxsize_kind'
Unknown token, lyxsize_kind, skipping.
Token: '1'

I know that you can now load the document fine, but you may have others
 where this occurs...

Yes, and, until now, I have to load the most docs with 1.2 and save before reading
them with 1.3.

...of course, I still can't load the bugger ;-)

Seems to be a pretty good test-file, isn't it?

Bullets in document-layout

If I try to start lyx from inside /usr/share/lyx/images, the bullets are seen, but the

This behaviour is on qt2 and xforms versions the same.

Maybe, but I have only SuSE 8.0.

There seems to be a missing ./config/configure.ac.

The command-sequence

Did that and tried the 2 different approaches:
 1. Setting up my .dvipsrc and including ae and aecompl generated

   with a. - No go
 2. Using pslatex as document font generated PDF files with all the
local characters replaced with a space - also no go.

 What now ?

Cannot send any of those versions to my customers.

Did yoy try the postcript-times-fonts? I had good results.
Use
\usepackage{times,latexsym}
in the preamble.

This patch allow displaying of non iso8859-1 chars.
 Please test.

I am unable to display the euro symbols (with or without this patch)
with the qt-version.
(The xforms-version is ok in using iso8859-15 screen-coding)

This helped. But why are the preferences not used?

\screen_font_encoding iso8859-15

I vote for it. But for me it is sufficient to set it in preferences.

Unicode support in Qt 2.1 is *bad*, and even 3 has some problems. I'm
not sure about RTL scripts, for example. At least for Qt 2.1 and Qt
for Windows, this could mean some serious working around trouble for
 Hebrew and Arabic.

QT3 here, I am not using Hebrew or Arabic.
