Oops, no not at all. Sorry for that. I copied that because I use
Chromium but BBC still doesn't support HTML5 videos so often copy/paste
over to Chrome to watch Flash videos. I don't know how I accidentally
pasted it in. It is a sad story.

Is the included URL something subtle for me?

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb
voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting
   the vote.

No problem. Please let us know if you have any other suggestions. Even
if we write something that is technically correct but not clear, if you
have an idea to make it more clear we are interested in that type of
suggestion as well.

Oops. That was supposed to be "delete", not "send". I eventually figured out
where my confusion lay:
the doc says "choose Enumerate from the Environment box (...)' Pow!"

The parenthetical is an icon of the "enumerate" list; I took that to mean that
I should choose from whatever showed up when clicking that icon in the toolbar
(which was unrelated to list environment types). In fact, it's the icon *for*
the Environment box (which is itself a drop-down menu).

I tend to be a literalist, which makes reading documentation a bit of a trial
for me :-}

So, no harm, no foul.

Thanks for alerting me to the fact that I "sent" the email.

Justin

Hi Justin,

I don't think your full email made it through. Can you resend it?

I cannot reproduce this. The manual compiles fine with LyX 1.6.0, 1.6.1, and 1.6.2svn under Windows

What Version of LyX and LaTeX are you using?

I meant what LaTeX distribution. In case you are using teTeX, please upgrade to TeXLive because
teTeX is outdated and since a few years no longer under development. Also update your TeXLive if
possible using its update manager program.

LyX Version 1.6.0(Fri, Nov 7, 2008) under openSUSE 10.3 64 bit
- installed from source, not from SUSE repository. (The SUSE Repository
actually just provides version 1.5.2.0.)

I recommend to upgrade to LyX 1.6.1. We provide a SUSE installation package for
it:
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.1/

If I try to convert ps2pdf or pdflatex or dvipdfm I get the following
error message:

\marginpar

\marginpar is a basic LaTeX command without the need to load a special LaTeX-package. Therefore it
should work on every LaTeX system. Can you compile documents where you use margin notes?

I have another LyX version 1.5.2.0 on openSuse 10.3 64 bit on another
machine that does not make problems,

So the problem must be your LaTeX installation.
