There is a little secret: you need to update the gcc package from the
on-line distribution of SuSE 8.1. The versions there are more recent
than the ones on DVD/CD. They are NOT in the upgrade directories or
suse's web site, although they clearly are.

I just uploaded a i386.rpm for rh7.3 to ftp.lyx.org/incoming. I took quite a
while to rebuild the source rpm on my ancient PII233, so hopefully this will
save someone else some time. I compiled using
RH 7.3
GCC 2.96-113
QT 3.0.5
These all conform to the latest official
Thanks to all involved in the making/testing of 1.3 with qt interface and to
Kayvan Sylvan for the redhat rpm (no dev tools on my workstation). It looks
gorgeous and my mouse-wheel seems better behaved too.
