What I usually do is generate the PDF with the equations, open the PDF
with Inkscape and save them as GIFs or PNGs.
Sounds cumbersome, but beats the hell out of mathtype!

I see. Then it just happens to work here (KDE 4.7, openSuse 11.4).
Frankly, I never heard of the .pam_environment file
Small example working perfectly with biber. Even with the same
preamble and configuration (a parent file and a lorem ipsum child
file). The only change is a reduced bib file with some selected
entries. Maybe some problem processing the bib file itself?
Regards.

Maybe. Try to

There is something nicer than that:
- Ekee [1], but it's broken on modern distros and unmaintained
Any reason that when presentation(beamer) is selected, page layout can't be
changed (grayed out)?
I inserted two images into my Lyx document. Both of them are approximately
the same size: about 1500*2000 resolution, 5"*7" document size, 300
pixels/inch. The pdf output shows the first as it is supposed to be (it fits
in nicely). But the second goes crazy; as if I inserted 10 times bigger
image.

What error? What image type? What document type? What version of LyX?
What OS? You do not give us enough
Is there a movie demonstrating the Windows install of LyX (from start to end?).
Why I wish it were so:
I'm using Linux, but I have installed it in the occasional Windows
system. The install is not like other Windows programs, there are
lots of ways people get it wrong and have to start over.

The Beamer package fixes the page dimensions and margins. Assuming you output
to PDF, you can stretch or shrink the slides when you present them by screwing
Thanks Richard. It works, only needed double quotes around the style
name ("Plain Layout").
