Angus, thank you for your reply! On LyX I did Edit-Reconfigure. Then I restarted LyX, but I see no effect on math formulas. Is there a special trick to do? You have to tell LyX that you want these previews. There's a check button on the Edit-Preferences dialog. Find it: (xforms)

I am using LyX 1.2.1 with Cygwin/XFree86 on Win2k. Problem: whatever quotation marks I choose in the configuration menu, I get always inch symbols when I press shift-2. I solved the problem myself. Step1: Disable the keymapping stuff (this causes the strangest problems) in the LyX
