Re: creating a tri-fold brochure

2002-01-11 Thread Jeremy C. Reed

Thank you Bruce Veidt for the example you sent me.

My columns are no longer spaced in the middle. I selected use geometry
package and adjusted my margins. So I now have three columns that I can
fold into thirds to make a brochure. (The paper I plan to use is
pre-printed trifold brochure paper that has blue bleeded lines and
patterns.)

My only problem now is an extra wide right margin (landscape mode -- so
really bottom of sheet). I think this might be a printer related issue.
Maybe I can't print close to the bottom (portait mode) of the sheet ...

Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

 \columnbreak in tex (red)

That works to start a new column. (Thanks.)

But I am still trying to figure out how to tell it where each column
starts. My problem is that my text (three columns) is centered on the
middle of the page. I want it to be placed so the left column starts a
left border of paper and goes until about 3.5 inches; then the middle
column starting at 3.6 and ends at about 7.25; and then the final
column begins there and ends at the right edge of the paper. (Currently,
it appears that I have two-inch margins; I only want .15 margins.)

I am reading Mittelbach's An environment for multicolumn output article.

I read Bjonnes' Multiple Columns examples article; it says The width of
the columns inside the multicols environment is automatically calculated.

I have done some searches for doing brochures with latex and have found
several similar questions to mine, but only one solution: create three
separate 3-2/3 x 8-1/2 pages and use dvidvi to merge together.

Maybe this question is not appropriate for LyX, but can anyone point me to
any other ideas for easily creating tri-fold brochures?

Has anyone easily made a tri-fold brochure with LyX (or LaTeX)?

this is one of them. same is possible with psresize.

you also can insert three minipages like:
\begin{minipage}{3 inch}
  --- left coloumn text ---

\end{minipage}%

\hspace{0,1 inch}\begin{minipage}{3.65 inch}

  --- middle coloumn text ---
\end{minipage}%
\hspace{0.1cm}\begin{minipage}{3 inch}
  --- right coloumn text ---
\end{minipage}

the commands in tex (red)

creating a tri-fold brochure

2002-01-03 Thread Jeremy C. Reed

Can anyone share some hints or point me to some examples on how to do
tri-fold brochures with LyX?

I have tried the (LaTeX) multicol package for three columns, but I want to
choose where it wraps (to the next column). I have read the multicol
example and am still trying the examples.

\begin{multicols}{3}
my 94 words (662 characters) of text here...
\end{multicols

The above is centered in the middle of the page and is three columns.
I want it to only use the first column until there is enough text (and/or
figures) to continue to the next column.

My needs:
 - landscape mode (using 8.5in X 11in paper);
 - each column will be approximately be about 2.75 inches (7 cm) wide by
   7.5 inches (20 cm) talll
 - text will only go to next column when it has filled current column;
 - some way to force end of column and to start at next column (even if
   current column is not full).
 - hopefully, be able to wrap text around figures.

By the way, I have tried xfig and tgif which don't support multi-line
textboxes very well and impress which is difficult to add and edit
multi-line textboxes. And they don't support linking of text to next
textbox. And they have no capabilities for different fonts and character
attributes within one textbox. LyX would be great for a tri-fold brochure
because it has spelling support, can provide multiple fonts, and can
rejustify text, etc.

After, I figure this out, I'd like to create and submit a Document Class
for tri-fold brochures.

I am currently using LyX Version 1.1.6fix1 (via NetBSD package).

Thanks,
