find that most of the time it’s at the beginning, but every once in a while
it’s at the end. I don’t trust it to be at the start any more.

I had a similar problem with XFat, that’s why I suggested MSDos fat. When I
put the drive on my air port extreme, not even my mac would see it. However,
with MSDos fat it does.

You can hit command f5 at the log on screen to get speech. There is a setting
somewhere, but I can’t remember where, to allow VO at the log on screen. Mine
comes on automatically there but I don’t remember where I set it to do so.
