I remember a client that told me that a ArcGis (9 or 10) had issues with
consuming WMS.
First, try with the WMS Client Gaia 3 to consume the WMS Service, it's free to
download and very easy to use.
If your mapguide WMS is correctly configured it must display maps.
If It's Ok check ArcGis

I'm trying to read a MapGuide WMS service with ArcMAP and its looks like I'm
able to get the layer and read the correct bounding box. When I get properties
for the layer in ArcMAP it doesn't have any styling properties. I'm figuring
the a the culprit is the fact that mapguide does have support
Isn't SLD for styling *vector* data?
Doesn't make sense that you need SLD to style a WMS layer, which is *raster*
based.
