David, As a part of the website development team I thought I might share some info which relates directly to what you were saying. Further to the discussions during to the conference call, my POV concerning communications channels is that lists don't make a good information storage medium.

P.S. If it's not already done, I'd recommend that TDF set-up Google Apps for documentfoundation.org and/or libreoffice.org. There's a host of really useful stuff for collaboration, etc. Plus you can fulfill your mail needs without busting your heads configuring and maintaining a mail server.
